Tor
AvailableTor is a large, brown and chocolate mixed shepherd/Labrador Retriever living in Lenoir, NC. He’s a neutered male born in February 2020, making him about 6 years and 3 months old. Tor is fully house trained, up to date on vaccinations, and has spent time with other dogs but would do best in a cat-free home.
About Tor
Tor’s story started with a family that loved him as a puppy, but after two years returned him when life changed. He tried to settle back in, but the original dogs in the home wouldn’t accept him, so he moved to foster care in April 2022 and has been waiting ever since. Born in February 2020 (an Aquarius—no wonder he’s a bit independent), Tor weighs about 65 lb and is up to date on vaccinations and prevention. He’s a large, handsome brown-and-chocolate mix who does well indoors, never chews up things or makes a mess, and is fully house trained. Tor is comfortable loose in the bedroom or in a crate and appreciates a big crate for lounging. He’s loyal and affectionate with people he trusts, though standoffish with strangers and prefers space. Around his family’s small kids, he was gentle, though his size sometimes sent them tumbling. Tor gets along with dogs and has a playful, energetic greeting style that can be a little much, so proper introductions are a must. He coexists without fuss—even letting the foster's 10-pound chihuahua boss him around. He does not get along well with cats, and would do best in a cat-free home. Tor walks best after burning off some energy in the yard, but is eager to please and responds well to consistent direction. He’s very food-motivated, travels nicely in the car, and has shown to be surprisingly gentle when his foster parent needed extra care after surgery. He’ll thrive with an experienced adopter who understands a strong, smart, ready-to-learn dog that likes to make up his own mind sometimes. Tor isn’t for beginners, but in the right home he’s a loyal companion and outdoor buddy waiting for that next adventure. Make their next chapter their best one yet.

Questions about Tor
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Tor, as a shepherd/Labrador Retriever mix, generally fits best in a home with space to move and an active routine. He thrives where he can spend time both indoors and out, especially with experienced owners who enjoy engaging with their dog.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
A shepherd/Labrador Retriever mix like Tor benefits from access to a fenced yard or regular walks in open areas. He enjoys running and would do especially well with room to exercise off-leash safely.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
Tor has lived with young children and, aside from some accidental bumping due to his size, showed good manners. Shepherd/Lab mixes are generally good with respectful children, but supervision is wise due to their strength and enthusiasm.
