About Zena

They are waiting with paws crossed! Apply now! Zena is a lovable, four-year-old pup who found herself in need of a new home when her previous family became overwhelmed after welcoming a baby. Thankfully, she was able to come directly into the care of a rescue in Connecticut, sparing her the stressful shelter experience. Zena's early years meant limited socialization and training, so she's a bit shy when meeting new people. Because of her background, Zena will thrive best with a dedicated adopter who is truly dog-savvy and patient. She may take time to settle in and benefits from slow introductions, particularly with strangers or during vet visits due to her touch sensitivity. An active, experienced adult home will be the perfect environment for her, especially with people used to rescue dogs and able to provide the decompression she needs. Zena has made great progress with training and now knows most basic commands. Continued obedience work will be important both for bonding and keeping her mind and body engaged. She'll flourish with daily brisk leash walks and plenty of positive training. DNA tests showed that Zena is a unique mix of Beagle, Pug, and a bit of Rottweiler, which gives her a fun, sassy personality. She is a sturdy, medium-sized dog at around 30 pounds and could gain a bit more comfortably. Her house manners are solid: Zena is house trained and crate trained, though new adopters should be prepared for a few transitional accidents at first as she adjusts. She is in excellent health, spayed, and completely up-to-date on vaccinations and health screenings. Dewormed and microchipped, Zena is ready for her fresh start! Make their next chapter their best one yet.
