About Rusty

Rusty is a smart, gentle, and shy young Retriever/Catahoula mix who arrived with her brother after being found wandering together in a rural area. At around 12 months old, she’s still very much a puppy, with a bright and curious spirit. Rusty thrives outdoors—she loves to nap in the yard unless it’s raining, in which case she settles indoors happily. While she’s still gaining confidence in unfamiliar places, she’s shown great progress and grows braver every day, especially when treats are involved. Rusty truly blossoms when she’s around other dogs, enjoying playtime and learning by observing her canine foster siblings. She’ll do best in a home with a securely fenced yard, a dog companion to show her the ropes, and people with experience in both herding breeds and shy dogs. Apartments aren’t a fit for her. Expect a quick learner who sometimes gets bored and will appreciate plenty of enrichment and encouragement as she builds confidence. Click apply to start the adoption process.
