Dude is a gentle, shy beagle about three years old who’s working hard to settle into life indoors. He arrived at his foster home scared and shaken after being found alone on the road at night, but has started to come out of his shell with some support. Dude is curious and has made progress with crate and potty training. He’s getting along well with his foster mom’s two German Shepherds and has some playful moments. He’s had positive experiences around kids as young as five. Cat compatibility is still an open question, since the resident cat prefers to avoid him, but there have been no signs of aggression. Patience is key with Dude. He’s easily startled by loud noises or tense voices and will cower if he thinks he’s in trouble, but he’s never shown aggression. His beagle instincts are strong—he’ll follow a scent, and if spooked, may try to bolt or slip his collar, so tie-outs are not safe for him.
