Ruben Humphrey is a small poodle/terrier mix who’s really come into his own since arriving as a stray. At six years old and around 14 pounds, he’s got soft white fur, a playful curly tail, and an energy that fills the room just as much as his need for affection. Ruben is pure joy on legs, lighting up at the sight of his person, hopping for attention, and eager to snuggle in close. Once he bonds, he becomes a devoted shadow, happiest right beside his chosen people. Curiosity fuels his walks—expect Ruben’s happy zigzags and napkin-stealing pace to turn even a block’s stroll into an adventure. He’s really thrived with steady routines, boundaries, and calm encouragement. His time with trainers and his current foster pack has worked wonders for his confidence and manners, and he’s happiest surrounded by humans willing to champion his ongoing training. Ruben enjoys friendly canine companions, especially those who are patient and steady, although new or overly assertive dogs can make him a bit nervous. He’s playful once trust has been earned. Strangers at home may cause a little uncertainty at first, but with reassurance, Ruben warms up quickly and shows his deeply affectionate side. He’s still figuring out what to make of cats—he’s seen a few on his walks but hasn’t been truly tested at home. Crate time is a work in progress, slowly morphing from ‘scary’ to ‘snug’.
