About Scuba Steve

Scuba Steve is, in many ways, a perfectly imperfect character—he’s had a rough start, came in shattered both physically and emotionally, but has been stubbornly putting himself back together piece by piece. Early shelter days were tough as Steve arrived terrified and badly injured. His right hind leg was shattered, likely after being hit by a car, and despite successful surgery, his road to recovery was slow and bumpy. He spent his earliest weeks in foster care, learning to trust in the quiet safety of a crate, still daunted by even the simplest things like toys and gentle outdoor breezes. The world used to absolutely paralyze Steve, and he would freeze at every new scent, sound, or shift in the wind. But something shifted: as he healed, he began to get curious. He learned that tugging ropes and batting balls could actually be fun. Confidence started to replace fear. Now, Steve looks forward to walks and quietly tests his boundaries, gradually enjoying trails and chasing dogs in the yard, sometimes with the grace of a klutzy parkour artist. Once he trusts, he morphs into a giant lap dog—endlessly affectionate, always up for snuggles, but never too coordinated about it. Steve’s rough past means he’s still spooked by loud noises, quick movements, and new people, especially men, though treats smooth introductions. He needs patience as he continues to build confidence, and while he plays well with other dogs, calm, neutral introductions are important. Steve would do best in a quiet, adult-only home or maybe with older kids who can respect his boundaries. He's crate trained, doing well with house training, and is currently working with trainers to keep building confidence. Steve is a once-in-a-lifetime type of dog who’s come a long way and just needs someone willing to let him finish the journey at his own pace. Ready to meet your new best friend? Apply now!
