Rocky is a striking, 3.5-year-old German Shepherd Dog tipping the scale around 80 pounds. He needs time to get to know new people, but once trust is built, he's an all-in, lovable goofball ready to brighten your day. Rocky isn't cut out for a hectic, on-the-go lifestyle or for someone wanting a dog that instantly opens up, but if patience is your style and you're looking to build a bond, you might be everything he needs. His backstory isn’t easy. Rocky landed in the shelter after being caught by animal control, and the experience shook him up badly, painting an unfair picture of his temperament. It took a volunteer with determination to crack his cautious exterior; only then did his affectionate nature show. Rocky faced tough times, battling an upper respiratory infection that spiraled to pneumonia, landing him on the euthanasia list. A rescue stepped in at the last minute. Steady care saw him pull through, and his true personality began to emerge in foster. With time to recover, Rocky’s social skills with other dogs have flourished and now he genuinely enjoys canine company. He greets new people politely, although he doesn’t seek their attention until he feels safe. Rocky is both crate and house trained, good for car rides, and he's learning to walk better on leash every week. He needs a single-family home with a yard—apartment life wouldn’t suit him. A friendly, confident dog companion would be a bonus. Rocky is neutered, current on vaccinations, and microchipped.
