About Holstein

Holstein came in as a terrified youngster, spotted running along riverbeds and busy streets, always bolting the second a human appeared. When finally caught, he was just a pup, barely six months old, and absolutely shut down. It took weeks for Holstein to warm up, but he’s since made real progress and now gets called Tigger because of his stalking, pouncing, and bouncy playstyle. If there’s a toy, he’s crouching and springing; on walks, he’s leaping up eagerly for his leash. Holstein is still figuring out his size and boundaries—normal for a playful Great Dane/Pointer mix—and plays politely with his housemate but can become unpredictable with unfamiliar dogs. For his peace of mind, he needs to be the only dog in the home and matched with someone experienced in reading dog behavior. Holstein’s self-entertaining with toys, loves carrying them on walks, and will happily snooze on any soft surface—including your bed if you’ll let him. He’s working on becoming more confident in busy public spaces, and appreciates patient handling. Given his past as a flight risk, Holstein must never be left alone in yards or unattended around open doors or windows. He requires crate training when home alone, a secure leash grip on outings, and should never be off leash outside a fenced space. Holstein doesn’t get along with cats, and would do best with children 10 or older due to his size and cautious temperament. Underneath the nervousness is a goofy, loving companion who just needs the right family to keep him moving forward. Ready to fall in love? Hit apply and lets get started.
