The Schnoodle is a Schnauzer-and-Poodle cross developed in the United States as a companion dog, starting around the 1980s. Because either parent can be a toy, miniature, standard or giant, size varies a lot, from about 10 pounds to more than 60, though many Schnoodles are small. The wavy to curly coat sheds little, and many dogs keep the Schnauzer's eyebrows and beard.
As a crossbreed, a Schnoodle has no breed standard, so looks and personality vary even among littermates. Many are bright, playful and closely attached to their people, with a watchful streak that shows up as barking at the door. In Richmond, where humid summers and muddy trails are part of the year, plan for grooming every month or two, daily activity and steady reward-based training.
