A Cavapoo, also called a Cavoodle, is a cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle, usually a Miniature or Toy. The mix took off in Australia during the designer-dog boom of the late twentieth century and is now one of the most sought-after small companion dogs in the US. Because it is a cross, no kennel club recognizes it, and looks vary: most have a soft wavy or curly coat, drop ears and round dark eyes.
Many Cavapoos combine the Cavalier's gentle, people-loving nature with the Poodle's quick mind, and they often want to be wherever their family is. They adapt well to small homes, but they dislike long hours alone and need regular professional grooming. Health risks from both parent breeds, especially the Cavalier's heart disease, make veterinary history and checkups important for adopters.
