An Aussiedoodle is a cross between an Australian Shepherd and a Poodle, a designer mix that grew popular in North America over the past few decades. Its size depends on the Poodle parent, so Aussiedoodles run from toy and mini dogs under 30 pounds to standards around 70. Coats are usually wavy or curly and come in many colors, including the striking merle patterns inherited from the Aussie side.
Both parent breeds are clever, high-energy working dogs, and most Aussiedoodles share that drive. Many are affectionate, eager to learn and happiest with a job, whether that is agility, hiking or daily training games. Without enough exercise and mental work, they can turn restless, vocal or clingy. Adopters should also plan for professional grooming every six to eight weeks and frequent brushing to keep the coat free of mats.
