The Miniature Pinscher is an old German breed, developed as a quick, fearless ratter on farms and in stables. It's often called the King of Toys, but it isn't a shrunken Doberman. Adults weigh about 8 to 11 pounds and stand 10 to 13 inches tall, with a sleek, short coat in red, black and rust, or chocolate and rust, and a high-stepping gait.
Many Min Pins are bold, curious and closely bonded to their people, with a strong prey drive and a talent for slipping through open doors or gaps in fences. Grooming is easy, with weekly brushing and an occasional bath. In Annapolis, secure containment, daily activity and warm clothing for winter matter most. Dogs vary, and Min Pins in shelters are often mixed with other small breeds.
