The Manx comes from the Isle of Man, where a natural gene mutation produced cats with no tail or a short one. Tail length varies a lot, though, and some Manx have full tails. Under the thick double coat, the build is round and solid, with a short back and hind legs longer than the front ones, which gives the rump its rounded shape. Most adults weigh 8 to 12 pounds and mature slowly.
Many Manx are gentle, devoted and playful in bursts, and plenty will fetch a toy like a dog. Their soft trills are quieter than a typical meow. That steady, people-focused nature works well in San Antonio's apartments and older bungalows, though the tailless gene can cause spinal, bowel and bladder problems, so a veterinary exam soon after adoption is worthwhile.
