An Oriental Tabby is not a separate breed but an Oriental cat, usually an Oriental Shorthair, wearing a tabby pattern. Orientals were developed from the Siamese to keep that breed's long, slender body, wedge-shaped head and very large ears in colors and patterns beyond the classic pointed coat. Tabby Orientals can be mackerel, classic, spotted or ticked, in a huge range of colors, and most have green eyes.
In shelters, the label may also describe a slim, big-eared tabby with Siamese-type looks whose ancestry is unknown, so personality matters more than paperwork. Orientals tend to be talkative, curious and intensely social, following their people around and asking loudly for attention. They often struggle when left alone for long stretches, and many do best with company, plenty of play and places to climb.
