The Cornish Rex began in 1950 with a curly-coated kitten born on a farm in Cornwall, England. The coat comes from a natural recessive mutation and has only the soft down layer, with no guard hairs, so it lies in tight waves that feel like warm suede. Add a lean, arched body, long legs, an egg-shaped head and very large ears, and the breed is easy to pick out.
Many Rexes stay playful and people-focused well into adulthood, following their humans from room to room and fetching toys. In Denver, that energy and the thin coat shape daily life: these cats need an indoor home, warm places to rest and plenty of company. They shed little but aren't truly hypoallergenic, and every cat varies, so a cat's own personality tells you more than the breed does.
