Anatolian Shepherds come from the high plateau of central Turkey, where they guarded flocks against wolves for thousands of years. They work by living alongside the animals they protect and deciding for themselves when to step in, rather than by herding. Adults are big and rangy, with a short to medium double coat, most often fawn with a dark mask. A land of dry summers and cold winters is familiar territory, so Salt Lake City's high-desert climate isn't a stretch for them.
At home they're usually calm, loyal and observant, but wary of strangers and protective of their space. They think independently and respond poorly to harsh handling, so training works best when it's patient and consistent. Not every dog fits that description exactly, and an adult's personality is often easier to read than a puppy's.
