The American Bully was developed in the United States in the 1980s and 1990s, mainly from the American Pit Bull Terrier with American Staffordshire Terrier and bulldog breeds mixed in. The aim was a companion dog with a heavy, muscular frame. Size varies widely, from compact Pockets to tall XLs, and the short coat comes in nearly every color.
Most Bullies are affectionate, eager to please and happiest close to their people. In Salt Lake City, their short coat and heavy build make them more sensitive to July heat and January cold than fluffier or leaner dogs. Training, steady socialization and a lean weight all help, and a Bully's own history and personality matter more than its look.
