Miniature Pinschers are an old German breed of farm ratters, often called the King of Toys. They weigh 8 to 11 pounds, with a sleek short coat and a high-stepping gait, and they're not miniature Dobermans. Many are bold and curious, and that ratter's prey drive shows up as chasing squirrels, lizards and anything else that moves.
In Garland, where coyotes have been seen in residential areas, that curiosity and a knack for slipping through small gaps make secure fencing and a snug harness the basics. Coat care is easy: weekly brushing and an occasional bath. Many Min Pins in shelters are mixes, and dogs vary, so a dog's own behavior says more than the breed label.
