Siberian Huskies descend from sled dogs kept by the Chukchi people of northeastern Siberia, and they were bred to pull light loads over long distances in a team. They're medium-sized, usually 35 to 60 pounds, with erect ears, a brush tail, a thick double coat and eyes that can be brown, blue or one of each. Many are friendly with nearly everyone, so they make sociable companions but poor guard dogs.
That northern build is the main thing to weigh in Corpus Christi. The dense coat sheds heavily twice a year, and it holds heat in a humid Gulf Coast climate, so a Husky needs air conditioning and exercise during cool hours. Huskies also dig, howl and test fences, and they tend to do best with company, though each dog varies in energy and independence.
