Border Collies come from the hills along the Anglo-Scottish border, where shepherds developed them to gather sheep with speed, focus and very little instruction. They're medium-sized and agile, usually 30 to 55 pounds, with rough or smooth double coats, most often black and white. Many are quick learners and form close bonds with their families.
That history shows up in small ways in town. A Border Collie may stare at, circle or chase joggers, bikes and passing cars along busy streets like Gay and High, so leash manners and calm, reward-based training matter early. Without real exercise and mental work, many invent their own jobs, from herding children to barking at the window. Dogs vary, and some are mellower than others, but plan for an active routine.
