Temperament
Shepherd-type dogs are often devoted and eager to work with their people. Some are wary of strangers or protective of home, so early socialization helps, especially around busy downtown sidewalks and apartment hallways. Herding instincts can show up as nipping or chasing bikes, children and cats. Breed type doesn't decide a dog's personality, so spend time with the dog.
