Anatolian Shepherds come from the central Turkish plateau, where they lived with flocks of sheep and goats and guarded them from wolves. Adults are large, often 80 to 150 pounds, with a thick double coat that is usually fawn with a dark mask, though other colors occur. They mature slowly, often not settling until two or three years old.
For a Jackson household, the guardian heritage matters most. Many Anatolians are gentle with their own people and animals but suspicious of strangers, quick to bark at anything unusual after dark, and inclined to roam if a fence allows. They think for themselves and respond best to calm, patient training. Dogs vary, so spend time with a dog before deciding whether its personality fits your home.
