The Cane Corso is an Italian mastiff that worked southern Italian farms as a guardian, cattle driver and boar hunter. Adults usually weigh 85 to 120 pounds, with a short, stiff coat in black, gray, fawn or red, often brindled. Shedding is moderate and seasonal, and weekly brushing keeps it manageable.
Many Corsos are calm and affectionate with their family but watchful with strangers, and some don't care for other dogs. Early socialization, steady reward-based training and confident handling matter more than usual. Plenty of dogs listed as Corsos are mixes, so judge the dog in front of you rather than the label, and plan for a powerful, large-to-giant dog.
