Siberian Huskies descend from sled dogs kept by the Chukchi people of northeastern Siberia, and they reached Alaska in the early 1900s for sled racing. They're medium-sized, usually 35 to 60 pounds, with a thick double coat, erect ears and eyes that can be brown, blue or one of each. They're domestic dogs, not wolf hybrids, even though the look suggests otherwise.
In Rockville, the practical side matters most. Huskies were bred to run and think for themselves, so many dig, howl and test fences, and few have reliable recall. Rockville requires a leash off your property unless a dog has passed the city's off-leash certification, so plan on harness-and-leash exercise. Expect two heavy sheds a year, and a dog that does best with company.
