The Standard Poodle is the largest Poodle variety and was developed as a water retriever, probably in Germany. Under the show clips is a square, athletic dog, typically 18 to 24 inches tall and 40 to 70 pounds, with a dense, curly coat in solid colors. It's a low-shedding coat, but not a no-maintenance one, and no dog is truly hypoallergenic.
Standards are known for being clever, people-focused and a bit dignified, with a playful side that lasts into adulthood. In a suburban-feeling city like Lawrenceville, that means a dog that enjoys errands, trail walks and training games, and that does best when it's treated as part of the family. Each Poodle varies, so a dog's own personality matters more than the breed label.
