The German Shorthaired Pointer was developed in nineteenth-century Germany as an all-purpose hunting dog that could point birds, track wounded game and retrieve from land and water. It's lean and muscular, with a short, dense coat in liver or liver and white, often ticked or roan. Many love water, which calls for extra care in a city of lakes and canals.
GSPs are friendly, affectionate and eager to work, and many stay very energetic until two or three years old. A bored dog may chew, bark, dig or clear a fence. Dogs vary, and adult dogs often arrive calmer than puppies, but plan on daily vigorous exercise, training and plenty of company for any GSP.
