Husky is a catch-all name for northern sled-dog types rather than a single breed. In Gainesville listings it most often means a Siberian Husky or a Siberian mix, though some are Alaskan huskies, a mixed racing type, or have Alaskan Malamute in them. Most weigh 35 to 70 pounds and share erect ears, a brush tail, a thick double coat and sometimes striking blue or mismatched eyes.
Huskies were developed to pull sleds over long distances, so endurance and independence come standard. Many are friendly and social, but they're also known for digging, escaping and chasing small animals, and each dog varies. Expect heavy shedding, plenty of vocal "talking," and a real need for daily exercise. Young adults whose energy outgrew their first home are common in rescues, and many settle well with an active, patient household.
