The Vizsla is Hungary's pointer-retriever, developed over centuries to work close to a hunter and both find and fetch game. It reached the United States around 1950 and joined the AKC Sporting Group in 1960. Adults usually weigh 44 to 60 pounds and stand 21 to 24 inches, with a lean build and a short golden-rust coat that has no woolly undercoat.
Many Vizslas are gentle, sensitive and affectionate, which is why people call them velcro dogs. In Fresno, that closeness matters as much as the exercise: a dog that wants to be near you suits a household with flexible hours or a remote worker better than one with a long commute. Shedding is light to moderate and grooming is simple. Like any breed, Vizslas vary, so weigh each dog's own energy and temperament.
