The Bichon Frise is a small white companion dog from the Mediterranean, later favored by European courts and then by street and circus performers. Adults weigh about 12 to 18 pounds and stand 9 to 12 inches tall, with dark round eyes, a black nose and a plumed tail carried over the back. Bichons were bred for company, not hunting, and many are happiest near their people all day.
The loosely curled double coat sheds little, but loose hair stays trapped and can mat, so plan on frequent brushing and professional grooming every four to eight weeks. In Scottsdale, a shorter trim is easier to keep clean and more comfortable in the heat. Bichons vary: some are mellow, others are barky or slow to house train, and low-shedding doesn't mean allergen-free.
