Temperament
Many are affectionate, playful and closely bonded to their people, and they often do well with respectful children. They tend to bark at unfamiliar sounds, which matters in apartment hallways, and may chase squirrels or cats. Most respond well to reward-based training, though terrier independence shows up. Each dog's history and comfort with other pets matter more than breed.
