Chinchilla is a silver coloring more than a separate breed. Most registries treat it as a Persian color, with long white hair tipped in black so the coat shimmers like frost. The look traces back to Silver Lambkin, an English cat born in 1882. Green or blue-green eyes outlined in dark pigment complete it, and golden Chinchillas exist too. Many cats listed as Chinchillas are Persians or Persian mixes.
Most are calm, gentle and quiet, and they like predictable days, which suits Houston's apartment-heavy housing. The coat is real work, though: daily combing, regular baths and face cleaning. Cats vary, so a Chinchilla may be livelier or more reserved than the description suggests. Persian health risks, including kidney disease and breathing and eye trouble from a flatter face, are worth understanding before you adopt.
