A Chinchilla cat is usually a Persian with a silver-tipped coat: each long white hair ends in a dark tip, which gives the fur its frosted shimmer. The look traces back to an English cat named Silver Lambkin, born in 1882. Most registries treat chinchilla as a Persian color rather than a separate breed, and green or blue-green eyes with dark rims are typical.
Many Chinchillas share the Persian's calm, gentle and quiet nature and prefer predictable routines, which suits an air-conditioned indoor life in Vegas. The coat is the real commitment, with daily combing, regular baths and eye and face cleaning. Persian-type health risks include kidney disease and breathing and eye trouble from a flatter face. Cats vary, so expect some differences from one to the next.
