The Manx comes from the Isle of Man, where a natural mutation produced cats with no tail, a short stump or sometimes a full tail, even within one litter. The body is round and solid, with a short back, hind legs longer than the front and a thick double coat in many colors. Manx are slow to mature, often not fully grown for several years.
In Charlotte, that sturdy build and love of leaping make a tall cat tree worth the floor space. Many Manx are a bit dog-like, fetching toys and trailing their people around the apartment, and they communicate with soft trills more than loud meows. The tail gene can cause spinal, bowel and bladder problems, usually obvious in kittenhood, so a veterinary check matters.
