The Chausie is a tall, long-legged domestic cat descended from crosses between the jungle cat and domestic breeds such as the Abyssinian. TICA accepted it for registration in 1995 and gave it championship status in 2013. Large ears set high on the head and a short coat in black, black ticked tabby or grizzled tabby give it a wild look.
Cats several generations removed from the jungle cat are fully domestic. Many are intelligent, playful and social, and they usually do better with company than without it. Some have sensitive stomachs, and early-generation hybrids can be more demanding. In a city like Kansas City, that means vertical space, daily play and a plan for hot summers. Chausies are rare in shelters, so patience helps.
