The Havana, called the Havana Brown by some registries, came out of Britain in the 1950s, when chocolate-carrying Siamese cats were paired with black domestic shorthairs. The look is unmistakable: a glossy chocolate coat, brown whiskers, vivid green eyes, large forward-tilted ears and a squared-off muzzle on a medium, muscular body of roughly 6 to 10 pounds.
Personality is the real draw. Havanas are curious, people-focused cats that investigate with a paw and talk in a softer voice than a Siamese. In Wichita, that suits households where someone is home often or another friendly pet is around. Because the breed is rare, most adoptable brown cats are shorthaired mixes, and each cat's own personality tells you more than a breed label does.
