About Dante
Meet Dante, the handsome malamute mix who’s ready for his next adventure. Dante came to the shelter after being left behind by his previous guardian, along with his friend Luna, who is also available for adoption. While they can be adopted together, it's not a requirement. Currently in a foster home, Dante has shown his calm and goofy personality. After settling in, he quickly learned to go potty outside and has become a great companion for his foster family, often joining them while they work from home. He loves getting his chest scratched and snuggling up on the couch, where he soaks up all the affection he can get. Dante enjoys daily walks of about 5 to 6 miles and likes to explore outside. He has been non-reactive to barking dogs behind fences, though he can be a bit reserved meeting new dogs on leash. Slow introductions are the best way to go here. Given his experience living with another dog, he may do well in a home with a compatible canine companion after a meet and greet. True to the nature of Nordic breeds, Dante has a bit of a wanderlust streak, so it's essential to keep him on a leash or supervise him in an enclosed yard. Good news: Dante's adoption fee has been covered by the Santa Cruz Animal Shelter Foundation's "Leave No One Behind" fund, and newly adopted dogs will receive $200 in training vouchers for positive reinforcement-based behavior consulting. They are waiting with paws crossed! Apply now!
