About Spyro

Spyro’s favorite way to spend quiet time is close to someone offering affection. In a playroom, he has rested his head against his companion and relaxed for pets. Staff describe this 11-month-old, 46-pound boy as easy to leash and a pleasant walking companion outside the kennel. He also calmly accepted handling during his medical examination. Spyro needs a calm environment where his activity can be restricted while his injured hip is treated. X-rays showed that his right hip is partially dislocated, and a veterinarian recommends femoral head ostectomy, or FHO surgery, which removes the ball of the hip joint. His adopter should be prepared for substantial veterinary expenses and recovery care guided by their veterinarian. Shelter stress has made it difficult for him to rest, so placement outside the kennel environment is especially important. His compatibility with dogs, cats, and children is unknown. Spyro is available for adoption, foster, or rescue placement. All adoptions include support from our adoption team to ensure a smooth transition from the shelter to your home. Adopted pets are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered before leaving the shelter's care. To view our current available animals, please visit: https://indy.gov/activity/adopt-a-pet.
