About Heather

Heather was timid when an officer first called to her, but she soon approached and sought attention. This 5-year-old, 46-pound girl has accepted handling from staff and shown a strong interest in treats, offering a useful starting point for getting acquainted and practicing skills together. Heather needs a home without cats. Her compatibility with dogs and children is unknown; she has pulled and jumped toward dogs during walks, so secure handling and space from other dogs will be important. Shelter life has been stressful for her, and she would benefit from a calmer setting and a predictable routine. She has older, displaced fractures in the two bones of her left foreleg. The veterinarian’s latest plan is to allow continued healing because she is using the leg and new bone is forming. Her adopter will need to arrange veterinary follow-up, follow guidance on activity, and be prepared for possible future amputation if the leg becomes problematic. All adoptions include support from our adoption team to ensure a smooth transition from the shelter to your home. Adopted pets are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered before leaving the shelter's care. To view our current available animals, please visit: https://indy.gov/activity/adopt-a-pet.
