Harley is a 5-year-old sweetheart who came to Good Omen Dog Rescue from MCACC’s euthanasia list after being surrendered by the family who had owned him for the previous two years. Harley’s surrender notes painted a concerning picture, describing him as unpredictable and aggressive toward other dogs. Because of that history, we went into his foster placement cautiously and committed to giving him time to decompress while carefully observing his behavior. The Harley we have gotten to know has been a very different dog. Since arriving in foster care, Harley has shown no aggression toward people or other dogs. He peacefully coexists with his foster brothers, has shared his foster mom’s lap with other small dogs, and has shown no food aggression or resource guarding. When other dogs in the home get worked up with one another, Harley’s response is simply to walk away. His foster mom describes him as “sweet as sugar” and a total snuggle bug. He loves affection and wants to be close to his person. If there’s a clear path into bed, he’ll happily climb up for cuddles, but if another dog is in his way, he simply finds somewhere else to settle. He even waits to greet his foster mom in the bathroom every morning if he hasn’t already been snuggling with her in bed. Harley also appears to be housebroken and reliably goes outside to potty. We believe in being completely transparent about every dog in our care, so Harley’s previous history is something potential adopters should be aware of. At the same time, we believe dogs deserve to be evaluated based on the behavior they actually show us. So far, Harley has given us absolutely no reason to believe he is the dog described in his surrender notes. What we have seen is a gentle, affectionate little guy who avoids conflict, gets along with the dogs in his foster home, and mostly just wants a person to love and a safe place to snuggle. Harley has already lost the family and home he knew and came frighteningly close to losing his life because of it. Now we’d love to find the family who will give this sweet boy the fresh start he deserves.
