Lydia is a sweet, eager-to-please girl with a gentle heart and calm, easygoing personality! At 3 years old and 59 lbs, she’s affectionate, curious, and happiest simply being near her people, whether you’re working from home or relaxing on the couch. She is potty trained, kid-friendly, sleeps through the night in her crate, and rides well in the car! She’s making great progress with leash walking and knows “sit,” “paw,” and “down” and can even catch treats midair! She responds well to redirection and enjoys learning. Her foster continues working on leash manners and “place,” and other skills through Rescue Ready, a Dallas Animal Services partnership with Wild at Heart Canine Academy. Lydia loves exploring outdoors and has shown positive interest in other dogs, comfortably greeting them and enjoying a good sniff. Her compatibility with cats is unknown. Since entering foster care, her confidence has blossomed! While initially shy with new people, a little patience and encouragement reveal her loving, cuddly personality. She is heartworm positive and has received her first Diroban injection and ProHeart 12, providing year-long heartworm prevention. The American Heartworm Society recommends a total of three injections. DAS advises her adopter to consult their veterinarian about a plan for continuing treatment. Lydia’s heartworm diagnosis doesn’t define the wonderful dog she is. She has so much love to give and deserves a family who sees all the goodness she has to offer. With a little extra care and a whole lot of love, Lydia has every chance to thrive. Whoever welcomes her home won’t just be giving her a second chance they’ll be gaining a truly special companion.
