MEET HANDSOME BARKLEY. He is being fostered in Bristol, Indiana Hi Friends, My Name Is Barkley! Am I not one of the most handsome pups you've ever seen? I certainly like to think so! My previous family loved me very much, but I became especially attached to my mom and had difficulty sharing her attention with my dad. Because they wanted me to have the best possible chance to thrive, they made the heartbreaking decision to help me find a home that would be a better fit for my needs and contacted BFCACT. I'm a three-year-old, 17.2-pound boy with plenty of youthful energy and a zest for adventure. I love long walks, outdoor fun, and exploring wherever the day takes me. My foster mom insists that I have a tall, secure fenced yard where I can safely run and play. Why? Well, let's just say my long legs have helped me demonstrate some rather impressive gate-clearing abilities in the past! So while she may sound a little strict, she's really just looking out for me and wants to keep me safe. When I've had plenty of exercise and playtime, I'm happy to settle down and spend time with my favorite people. I'm looking for a family that understands young dogs like me need both physical exercise and mental stimulation to be our very best selves. I had a fabulous time when my foster family took me and Beau, their Bichon, to the shores of Lake Michigan. What fun we had playing in the sand! But at the end of a busy day, I'm perfectly content to curl up in my own comfy bed right next to my foster mom's. I am a very loyal and affectionate boy who would love a family that is home much of the time. Because I'm still learning that a stable, peaceful home is forever, I like to keep my foster mom in sight and follow her wherever she goes. As a social, outgoing Bichon, I enjoy meeting other puppers and may enjoy having another friendly dog my size to play with. I'd also love to have children who would treat me gently and join in my adventures. Cats? I don't have an opinion just yet. I've never met one! Good news! My foster mom says I'm a star when it comes to housetraining. I'll probably need a few days to learn the routine at my new house, but once you show me where to go, I'll be sure to let you know when I need a trip outside. My first couple of years weren't perfect, and I'm still working on a few social skills, such as learning to greet people calmly. But my foster mom says I'm very smart (I happen to agree!), and with a little patience and guidance, I can't wait to show my forever family just how much love one little Bichon can give. He has been neutered, fully vaccinated, and is healthy and ready to begin the next chapter of his journey. He is still a puppy who has not had much opportunity to enjoy a puppy's life and is continuing to learn about the world around him. Once he has settled into his new home, he may benefit from training and guidance tailored to his needs and personality. We are hoping to find an active family or couple that will include Barkley in their adventures. This boy is a big fan of car rides, exploring new places, and discovering new things.
