Rumi is an 18-month-old, 70-pound female Dalmatian with a beautiful white coat and black spots. She is house-trained and crate-trained, knows several tricks, and is very treat-motivated. She loves playing fetch, spending time outdoors, and playing with kids. She gets along well with cats and has done well with children, although she can get a little too rowdy during playtime. She can be protective of her kennel around unfamiliar people. Rumi is being rehomed due to her owner's health issues, and we are hoping to find her a loving home where she can get the time, attention, exercise, and patience she deserves. Rumi is a playful, silly, affectionate girl with a big personality. She loves treats, knows how to sit, lie down, and shake paws, and sometimes gives the sweetest little smile while wiggling her whole backside when you tell her she's a good girl! She does have some challenges: she is strong and stubborn on a leash, enjoys digging, and chewing, and has been known to shred blankets and bedding if you don’t keep an eye on her. Lots of chew toys are a must! Important papers need to be kept out of reach, too. She can struggle with separation anxiety when left alone or crated while the family is awake; she wants to be with the family. She does not enjoy car rides, and is still working on obedience and listening, especially when food is involved. She sees it as a challenge to get food left unguarded. She responds best to patience and positive reinforcement, as she can be timid when scolded. Rumi would thrive with an active, understanding family willing to continue her training and give her plenty of love and attention.
