AvailableAbout Mabel
Mabel is a smart, playful, independent girl who came to New England from Memphis as a young puppy. She has blossomed into a happy, curious pup with plenty of personality and is ready for her next adventure! Mabel is affectionate without being clingy. She loves belly rubs and snuggles, but when she's had enough, she's perfectly happy wandering off to her crate, finding a comfy spot for a nap, or settling by the window to watch the world go by. She loves her people but is equally comfortable doing her own thing. Mabel has lived with two adult dogs and genuinely enjoys canine companionship. She loves a good game of chase or tug and is also happy entertaining herself with a ball or Benebone. She meets new dogs beautifully and has done very well with dogs outside her home. As she's matured, she's also developed a few opinions of her own! She can be protective of a high-value chew or the occasional rogue piece of food, so she'll do best with canine friends who respect her signals and people who will continue working with her on positive resource-sharing skills. She has also lived with a cat. Mabel would very much like the cat to play with her, but when the cat says, "Absolutely not," she gets the message and respectfully moves along. Mabel recently graduated from puppy skills class and is a quick learner--especially when treats are involved! She crates beautifully overnight when left alone and is about 80% potty trained. She usually gives cues when she needs to go out, although if those cues are missed, an occasional little sprinkle can still happen. One of Mabel's favorite things is getting outside. Most of her walks have been on hiking trails, and she would make a fantastic hiking buddy. She's still working on some leash pulling, but she loves exploring and experiencing the world. She rides well in the car and enjoys meeting new people and dogs. One outdoor activity she will happily skip? Swimming. Mabel has zero interest in getting wet and sees absolutely no reason why anyone else thinks water is fun. At home, Mabel settles beautifully and takes her naps very seriously. She isn't destructive around the house, although soft toys are a different story. Mabel considers destroying them to be a perfectly legitimate form of entertainment. Mabel is a funny, curious pup with a wonderful balance of affection and independence. She's social, food-motivated, eager to learn, and equally happy heading out for a trail adventure or snoozing on the couch afterward. If you're looking for a smart, adventurous companion with plenty of personality--and just enough puppy mischief to keep things interesting--Mabel may be your girl!
