About Oxford

DWARF PITTY Please read in full... Meet Oxford. Oxford came to us from a high-kill shelter situation. When he arrived, he looked like an alien and we knew there was something off with him. However, we couldn’t figure it out at first - fecal testing was clear, no infections anywhere, bloodwork looked pretty normal... We were told he was a chihuahua mix, but immediately we thought he looked more like a pitty. We joked that “maybe he’s a pit/chihuahua mix”. Well, we sent out DNA while starting some supplements to try to get him healthier looking. The DNA came back and we were all shocked, BUT we got our answers! Turns out Oxford is indeed mostly a pitbull/chihuahua mix. (And hope that mom was the pit). IN ADDITION to that, he has a genetic marker for chondrodysplasia. This is essentially a form of dwarfism. It causes extremely short legs. This is the same genetic trait that causes Bassett hounds to have their short legs. These two findings explained why Oxford was a little funny looking and why he was dealing with abnormal growth and a disproportionate body. Since then, Oxford has gotten a lot healthier and grown to look much more dog-like. He is now ready to find his FURever family His life expectancy is not affected by this and he is just a typical puppy! About 5 months old Working on potty training (75%) Crate trained LOVES ATTENTION Good with cats, dogs and kids Leash trained, loves going on walks with his human. Neutered UTD on age appropriate vet care Full grown, we are expecting Oxford to be about 24 - 35 lbs at the most. Like any puppy, he will need lots of socialization and training Due to his shorter legs and genetics, he may require more medical care as he ages. Additionally, he should be on joint supplements for life to avoid issues.
