Meet Radar! This 7-year-old Belgian Malinois is a handsome, playful, treat-motivated gentleman with a big personality, an impressive set of athletic abilities, and absolutely ZERO interest in a career involving sitting quietly in a kennel. Radar would like to file a formal complaint about his current accommodations. His demands include more snacks, more playtime, more water, and immediate release from what he considers a deeply unjust incarceration. He has expressed these concerns through whining, howling, jumping, and attempting to remodel his kennel door with his teeth. Sir, this is a shelter. Not a luxury resort. But, we get it dude! But underneath all that noise and nonsense? There is a very sweet, intelligent boy who is struggling with kennel stress and desperately needs the right environment to show off his best self. Now for the important stuff — because Radar deserves the RIGHT home, not just any home. Radar has previously lived with children and another dog. However, he can be overbearing with smaller children due to his jumping, and his history with other dogs is mixed. He can play roughly, may become overwhelmed by other dogs, and has a history of conflict with another dog. A home without children and without other pets would be the safest starting point, with any future introductions requiring careful guidance. Radar has also shown resource-guarding concerns and has a history of biting a family member, although the reported incident did not break skin or require medical attention. He previously nipped an owner when his collar was grabbed. For this reason, he needs an experienced, dog-savvy adopter who understands canine body language, respects his boundaries. He should not be physically grabbed by the collar. He also experiences separation anxiety, can be destructive when left loose, and pulls hard on leash. He's not a plug-and-play pup who's going to magically become a perfectly mannered houseguest overnight. Radar needs structure, consistency, appropriate exercise, and someone willing to help him succeed. And while Radar is showing signs of kennel stress, we've also seen his softer side. He takes treats nicely, has shown relaxed behavior during a food-related assessment, and loves getting outside to play. There is a whole lot more to Radar than what you see through kennel bars. Belgian Malinois are intelligent working dogs with energy and needs that go well beyond a casual stroll around the block. Radar needs an adopter prepared to meet those needs while prioritizing everyone's safety. He may be seven, but don't let the distinguished gentleman status fool you. This boy still has plenty of zoomies left in the tank. Radar isn't looking for just anybody. He's looking for his somebody — someone who sees past the kennel chaos, understands the work ahead, and is ready to help him settle into a better life.
