Looking for an Extraordinary Home Not every dog is the right fit for every family—and Kash is looking for a truly exceptional adopter who understands exactly what it means to take on a dog with a behavioral history. Kash is a 4.5-year-old dachshund with a big personality, lots of energy, and an incredible desire to bond with his person. He loves playing fetch, going for walks, greeting his favorite people with kisses, and then ending his day in true dachshund fashion—tunneled under a blanket and snoozing peacefully until morning. Kash has come a long way since entering rescue and initially struggled with significant reactivity. With structure, boundaries, and consistent behavioral intervention, he has made meaningful progress. However, Kash has a documented bite history, and his adopter must understand that his behavioral history cannot be considered “cured.” He will require thoughtful, lifelong management. His ideal adopter is someone experienced with dachshunds and, importantly, with dogs who have behavioral challenges. Kash needs a person who understands canine body language, respects boundaries, provides consistent structure and routine, and is willing to continue reinforcing the work that has helped him succeed. Kash should be the only pet in an adult-only home with no children or cats. Because he bonds strongly with his person and prefers companionship and stability, someone who is retired, works from home, or is home much of the day would be ideal. He does experience some separation anxiety but generally settles once he adjusts to his routine. Kash is potty trained on a consistent schedule, knows his basic commands, and settles beautifully when he feels secure with his person. This is not a dog for someone looking for an easy companion. Kash needs someone who sees all of him—the affectionate, playful and fiercely loyal dachshund as well as the behavioral challenges that require continued management—and is willing to make a genuine commitment to both. For the right experienced person who can provide clear boundaries, stability, patience, and a safe environment, Kash has the potential to be an incredibly devoted companion.
