Lemmy is approximately 2 years old. He looks to be a black lab possibly mixed with great Dane, weighing about 55 pounds. He is neutered. He has a short, sleek coat with beautiful white markings on his chest. Lemmy has been living his best life since leaving the overcrowded shelter in Kentucky. Lemmy can initially be timid and shy, but he bonds very deeply and could be described as a "Velcro dog" once he settles in. Lemmy loves other dogs and would love to have a canine sibling to play with and continue to give him confidence. Lemmy is being fostered with 3 other dogs, and he enjoys playing with them and sharing toys. Lemmy has been cat tested and basically ignored the cat. Lemmy has also started attending doggy daycare to help with confidence and socialization and is he is doing very well. Lemmy is doing excellent with potty training on a schedule. He is crate trained and will sleep quietly for 8 hours. He might cry initially because he loves being with his people but responds well to being told 'No'. Lemmy walks well on leash, and rides well in the car. He has gone hiking several times with his foster family and has really enjoyed the fun. Lemmy's foster dad works from home, and Lemmy loves to nap the day away with the other dogs while he works. When Lemmy initially came into foster care, he had no idea what a toy was. Now, he loves to play with toys and chew on bones. He can entertain himself if the other dogs don't want to play. We don't know what Lemmy's life was like before coming to the shelter. He was abandoned outside the shelter gate in January of 2025. He was understandably afraid, and it took the shelter workers several hours to convince him to come inside. Lemmy has been patiently waiting since then for someone to choose him. Black dogs are often overlooked in busy shelters, and that has definitely been the case with sweet Lemmy. He has learned what it means to be a cherished pet. He would love to find a home of his own that will promise to love him forever. He will return that love tenfold! Adopters must live within 75 miles of Racine, WI. Adoption fee is $300 plus a $100 deposit for mandatory training classes*. This radius is in place due to ongoing medical care we provide post-adoption. All dogs are in foster care and are not located in our office. Since all of our dogs are held in private foster homes, we look to have an approved application prior to sending someone to a private residence. Upon approval of your application, we will contact you with the foster home phone number to arrange a meet and greet. There is no cost or obligation to apply. *Basic obedience training classes are required for all dogs at an approved certified training facility of your choice. H.O.P.E. pays $50.00 towards the overall cost of classes. You will be required to leave a $100.00 deposit for training at time of adoption. This deposit is 100% refundable after completing the basic obedience class. All dogs will be up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, spay/neutered*, microchipped and a 30-day health certificate. *If they are too young to be altered, the fee includes spay/neutered at one of our preferred clinics All pets have a lifetime return policy.
