About Johnny

Johnny is a beautiful dilute tabby and white male kitten born June 18, 2026. With his soft gray markings, sweet little face, and gentle personality, Johnny is a very special boy who has already overcome a difficult beginning. Johnny and his sister were taken to a local animal control facility when they were only four weeks old. Both kittens were extremely sick with feline herpesvirus, a common feline respiratory virus that can be especially dangerous for very young kittens. Thankfully, Edgar and Ivy's Cat Sanctuary was able to bring them into our care and provide the medical treatment and nursing they desperately needed. Johnny fought through his illness and survived, but he will remain a lifelong carrier of feline herpesvirus (FHV-1). This virus affects only cats and cannot be transmitted to humans or dogs. It commonly causes upper respiratory symptoms such as sneezing, nasal congestion, and watery eyes. The virus can remain dormant for long periods and occasionally reactivate, particularly during times of stress. Vaccinated cats have protection that generally reduces the severity of illness, although vaccination does not completely prevent infection or transmission. Johnny may occasionally experience a sniffly nose or watery eyes during flare-ups, but these symptoms can often be managed with appropriate veterinary care. Despite everything he has experienced, Johnny is a sweet, affectionate little boy who is simply happy to be alive. He doesn't know that he carries a virus, and he certainly doesn't know that some people might overlook him because of it. All he knows is that he enjoys kindness, attention, and the comfort of being safe. Johnny has been neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped and is ready for adoption. We are looking for a loving indoor home with a family who understands his condition and is willing to provide the care he may occasionally need. Johnny survived an illness that threatened his life when he was just a tiny baby. Carrying feline herpesvirus does not make him any less deserving of love, security, and a family of his own. This precious little boy has already fought so hard for his chance at life. Now he deserves the chance to spend that life being cherished. Edgar and Ivy's Cat Sanctuary provides educational information about feline herpesvirus to help Johnny's future family understand his condition and care for him with confidence.
