Luna Snow is a beautiful tabby-and-white girl believed to be only six or seven months old, but this tiny mother has already endured more suffering than most cats experience in a lifetime. She was one of 38 cats rescued by Edgar and Ivy's Cat Sanctuary from a horrific hoarding house, where the conditions were almost beyond description. Amid the neglect, illness, and suffering, we found Luna Snow desperately trying to care for her two newborn kittens. When I reached down and picked up the tiny babies lying against her body, I thought they were dead. Miraculously, they were alive. Their young mother was fighting for her own life, suffering from feline herpesvirus, yet somehow she had kept her babies alive. Once safely at our sanctuary, Luna Snow continued to devote herself to her little family. For 11 weeks, she nursed and protected her kittens in a small kennel, giving them everything she had while recovering from her own ordeal. She kept them warm. She kept them fed. Most importantly, she kept them alive. Luna Snow was barely more than a kitten herself, yet she showed the extraordinary devotion of a mother determined not to lose her babies. Now her job is finally done, and it is her turn to be cared for. Luna Snow will carry feline herpesvirus for the rest of her life. This common feline respiratory virus can cause occasional sneezing, congestion, and watery eyes, particularly during times of stress. It cannot infect humans or dogs, although it can spread to other cats. Vaccination helps reduce the severity of illness but does not completely prevent transmission. Many cats with feline herpesvirus live long, happy lives with proper care. Luna Snow may carry this virus forever, but she does not have to carry the fear and suffering of her past into her future. She deserves to discover soft beds, gentle hands, peaceful afternoons, and the security of knowing she will never again have to fight for survival. To us, Luna Snow is nothing short of a hero. She was a baby raising babies in unimaginable circumstances, and she never gave up on them. Now we are asking someone to give this extraordinary little mother the love she has spent her short life giving to others. Luna Snow is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped and ready for a loving indoor home. Her babies had their chance because of her. Now, finally, it is Luna Snow's turn.
