About Gonzo The Great

What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! I'm sensitive and shy. I'll need extra help from you. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. Gonzo The Great is laying in his den, laying in a loaf position with his front paws tucked under his body, ears forward, eyes wide, and pupils dilated as the assessor approaches. When the den door is lifted and he is spoken to softly, he leans forward to sniff the assessor's hand before pulling back. He returns slow blinks but does remain a bit tense. When petting is attempted, Gonzo The Great allows all petting, remaining pressed close to the back wall and a bit tense but closing his eyes as he is pet on the head and cheeks. He is unable to be fully coaxed out of the kennel, so full pickup is unable to be attempted. He is tolerant of upward pressure and being lightly lifted under his chest, remaining slightly tense but without further issue. When settled back down, he continues to allow petting on the head and cheeks, leaning in and closing his eyes. Gonzo The Great enjoys attention and petting with a soft, slow approach, but appears to be moderately fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that he go to a home with some cat experience preferred and be well counseled in new home adjustment periods and fearful cat behavior.
